Meet Scab McNally, an imaginative and bright fourth grader currently on a mission. Scab(his real first name is top-secret) is determined to convince his parents to let him get a dog, no matter what it takes. He knows a dog will love him unconditionally won't care if he's not super smart like his twin sister Isabelle. Unfortunately, he has no money to buy a dog and his parents want him to prove that he's responsible.

Part scientist, part inventor, part daredevil, Scab loves playing in his homemade science lab in the basement. Scab comes up with a terrific dog-obtaining plan when his newest invention (a sister-repellent called "Isabelle's Smell") becomes a big hit with the other fourth-grade guys.  Scab starts to sell the spray to save up for his future dog. Just when his plan is reaching full speed, everything goes hilariously (and stinkily) awry and it's up to Scab to set things right again.

The first in a this fun series by PNW Author Trudi Trueit , this story will grab the attention of elementary-school boys with the hysterical, yucky details. A truly great boy-oriented series, Secrets of a Lab Rat books are filled with all the icky, gross-out humor that boys love. Dog poop, farts, and rotten garbage smells, not to mention a ‘No Girls Allowed’ mentality and some big sibling rivalry make the perfect draw for avid and reluctant readers alike.
